I’m off to Cuba in a few short hours and for the first time in who knows how long, I’m completely disconnecting from the digital world. Not only is it my job as a community manager to be connecting & engaging, it’s also an addicting passion every single day.

For one week I won’t be checking into foursquare, tweeting, instagramming, pinning, facebooking, emailing or blogging (I might have just made adjectives out of all of those, ha!). My phone might be used for photos & note taking but that is all.

I’m calling it unplugged and connected. Imagine how present and connected to life you could be without the distraction of your cellphone flashing/pinging/beeping every 10 seconds. Imagine walking down the street and actually noticing almost everything outside of your 3×2 inch screen. Imagine connecting with your friends/family/lover on a deep emotional level.

“In a world that moves too quickly, we must remember to stop for a moment and refresh our spirits.” – unknown

I did a talk at a public speaking class a few weeks ago about what really matters in life.

“Almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure, these things just fall away in the face of death leaving only what truly matters in life. Remembering you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.” – Steve Jobs

What truly mattered to people (according to the top five regrets of the dying) came down to living a life true to yourself, not working too hard that you miss things (like your child’s upbringing), having the courage to express feelings, staying in touch with friends and letting yourself be happy.

You don’t have to go on vacation to do this. Remember to take a few moments here & there to connect on a deeper level with people, nature, and the world. You’ll be more creatively refreshed and happier because of it.

With love,
Georgia
